Investigators believe actor Jussie Smollett paid two men to orchestrate the alleged racist assault against him he claimed was perpetrated by white Trump supporters, according to police sources.
Chicago Police said that two Nigerian brothers questioned for their connection to Smollett through the show “Empire” confirmed they were the two suspects in the video surveillance footage Smollett claimed were the pro-Trump assailants.
“Yes, they are confirmed to be the men on scene by surveillance video,” Chicago Police said in a statement to ABC7 Chicago. “The reason why they were there is now central to the investigation and we can’t get into that at this time.”

Bill Maher began Friday’s broadcast of “Real Time” with a blistering dissection of President Donald Trump’s Rose Garden declaration of a national emergency to pay for a wall on the U.S.-Mexico border.
“He did it, fucko did it today,” said Maher, who described Trump’s address as “just completely crackers.”
“I know I’ve said that before, but this was just one long, baseless, incoherent, stream of consciousness, call-the-nursing-home rant,” he added.
Maher later repeated his theory, which he previously made in the days before the 2016 election, about how a slow-moving right-wing coup is taking over the country. This is “democracy-hanging-by-a-thread kind of stuff,” he added.
After unveiling his intention to declare a national emergency that would allow him to redirect some $7 billion in additional funding for his border wall, President Trump said Friday that “we will be sued…and we will possibly get a bad ruling…and then we will get another bad ruling…and then we will end up in the Supreme Court” over the controversial plan, which even some Republican Senators (and former campaign-era rivals) have denounced as potentially unconstitutional. Of course, Trump is used to legal challenges to his policies. And he’s also used to winning, as he ultimately prevailed during the battle over his travel ban (though the final measure approved by the Supreme Court was notably watered-down).
After Trump launched into a lengthy digression about the lengthy legal process upon which he was about to embark, several commentators noted, the challenges will offer Trump the opportunity to utter one of his favorite phrases: “See you in court.”

Update: The House Judiciary Committee announced that it will investigate President Trump’s national emergency declaration after Trump admitted during a Friday press conference that he “didn’t need to do this.”
In a six-page letter signed by Democrats who control the committee, the Judiciary Committee seeks several documents from the White House, including any opinions solicited from the Office of Legal Counsel (OLC) and Department of Defense. The letter also asks the White House to justify its legal basis for the determination that “there is an “emergency” at the southern border,” and why a border wall is “necessary to support” a “use of the armed forces” at the border.
The Democrat-controlled Judiciary committee is commencing “an immediate investigation into this matter, which raises both serious constitutional and statutory issues,” according to the letter.
The top brass of the Obama FBI went to great lengths to justify their decision not to recommend charges against former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton for mishandling classified information, according to Judicial Watch, which obtained evidence that the agency created a ‘chart’ of Clinton’s offenses.
The newly obtained emails came in response to a court ordered Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request that the DOJ had previously ignored.

Three days after then-FBI Director James Comey’s press conference announcing that he would not recommend a prosecution of Mrs. Clinton, a July 8, 2016 email chain shows that, the Special Counsel to the FBI’s executive assistant director in charge of the National Security Branch, whose name is redacted, wrote to Strzok and others that he was producing a “chart of the statutory violations considered during the investigation [of Clinton’s server], and the reasons for the recommendation not to prosecute…”
The Chicago Police Department (CPD) said Friday night that two men arrested in connection with the alleged attack against “Empire” actor Jussie Smollett were released with no charges.
“Due to new evidence as a result of today’s interrogations, the individuals questioned by police in the Empire case have now been released without charging and detectives have additional investigative work to complete,” CPD spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said in a statement obtained by The Daily Caller News Foundation.
The announcement followed the earlier arrest of two Nigerian brothers on suspicion of assault and battery in the case, one of whom had appeared on “Empire.”

Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) is taking the Green New Deal on the road to build support for her socialist pipe dream.
“Let’s go: ‘We’re starting a 15-city tour + a 50-State campaign, starting in early primary states, to build political and public support for a Green New Deal,’” Ocasio-Cortez tweeted Thursday.
Her tweet included a video by far-left group Now This explaining the Green New Deal, which would implement a number of “social justice” and de-industrializing policies within 12 years.
The gunman who shot five people dead and wounded several others in Aurora, Illinois, was not supposed to own a firearm due to previous criminal convictions, according to authorities.
The shooter, 45-year-old Gary Martin, “was not supposed to be in possession of a firearm,” Aurora Police Chief Kristen Ziman said during a press conference Friday.
Martin was prohibited from owning a gun because of a 1995 aggravated assault conviction in Mississippi, she said, but he was able to obtain one through a background check that didn’t require fingerprinting.
In a stunning admission of the left’s draconian plans for America, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi warned that a Democrat president will declare a national emergency to confiscate firearms because President Trump somehow set a precedent declaring a national emergency to secure the U.S. southern border.
“The precedent that the president is setting here is something that should be met with great unease and dismay by the Republicans,” she warned Thursday at a press conference.
“..If the president can declare an emergency on something that he has created as an emergency, an illusion that he wants to convey, just think of what a president with different values can present to the American people.”
While some people have received some surprise tax bills when filing their returns, corporations continue to avoid paying tax — thanks to a cocktail of tax credits, loopholes, and exemptions.
According to a report from the Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy (ITEP), Amazon (AMZN) will pay nothing in federal income taxes for the second year in a row.
Thanks to the new Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA), Amazon’s federal tax responsibility is 21% (down from 35% in previous years). But with the help of tax breaks, according to corporate filings, Amazon won’t be paying a dime to Uncle Sam despite posting more than $11.2 billion in profits in 2018.
How is that possible?
“It’s hard to know exactly what they’re doing,” said Steve Wamhoff, ITEP’s Director of Federal Tax Policy. “In their public documents they don’t lay out their tax strategy. So it’s unclear exactly which breaks [the company is taking advantage of]. They vaguely say tax credits. One could think of many different ways a corporation could do this, like the depreciation breaks which were expanded under TCJA.”
