Hours before President Trump was due to hold a rally in Orlando billed as the kickoff to his reelection campaign, the Orlando Sentinel announced who it is endorsing for president in 2020: not Donald Trump.
“Some readers will wonder how we could possibly eliminate a candidate so far before an election, and before knowing the identity of his opponent,” the paper said in a scathing editorial on Tuesday. “Because there’s no point pretending we would ever recommend that readers vote for Trump.”
The Sentinel has mostly endorsed Republicans since 1960, but in recent years it has been more independent, backing Democrats in 2004 (John Kerry over George W. Bush), 2008 (Barack Obama over John McCain) and 2016 (Hillary Clinton over Trump). It endorsed Republican Mitt Romney over Obama in 2012.
Members of the far-right Proud Boys men’s group repeatedly tried to confront an anti-Trump demonstration in Orlando on Tuesday, only to be blocked by police.
The incident, documented by videos posted to social media, happened near President Donald Trump’s campaign kickoff at Orlando’s Amway Center. That footage shows dozens of Proud Boys and their pro-Trump allies marching towards the anti-Trump rally on Tuesday afternoon, but before they could reach the anti-Trump group, they were blocked by a line of police officers who were using their bicycles as barriers.
In one video, posted by an Associated Press reporter, an associate of the Proud Boys wearing a Trump-themed motorcycle vest tries unsuccessfully to convince the police to let him through to the anti-Trump protest.
On Friday’s Morning Joe, co-host Mika Brzezinski suffered a full-on meltdown as her Trump Derangement Syndrome was out in full force. She ranted about the President being “evil” and bringing on a “dictatorship.”
The outrage came in the wake of Trump’s Oval Office interview with ABC’s George Stephanopoulos in which the President said he would accept opposition research on his political opponents from foreign governments. For Mika Brzezinski, something that the Clinton campaign actually did in 2016 apparently makes Trump akin to an evil dictator.

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — The Latest on Donald Trump and Joe Biden visiting Iowa (all times local):
Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden says President Donald Trump is trying to dismantle the limits on the presidency.
The former vice president said Tuesday that in the 2020 election, voters must not only reject Trump’s policy agenda and values, but they also must stop Trump’s attempt to elevate the presidency above its coequal branches of government.
Biden accused Trump of “breaking down the barriers that constrain his power” and claiming that he has “complete power.”
Biden thundered into the microphone: “No, you don’t, Donald Trump!” It sparked an eruption of cheers from the 500 people in a building on the Mississippi Valley Fairgrounds in Davenport.

Hillary Clinton claimed President Trump is showing signs of rolling out a fascist dictatorship in the United States.
Speaking at a Wellesley College alumni event Saturday, Clinton cited former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright’s book, “Fascism: A Warning,” to charge that Trump exhibited the same “classic pattern” of a fascistic takeover of a country.
“The idea that it can’t happen here is just old fashioned, my friends,” Clinton told the audience.

Speaking with LGBTQ advocacy group the Human Rights Campaign on Saturday, former Vice President Joe Biden made an odd connection between the death of five black transgender women in 2019 and the Trump administration.
“We’ve already had five, just this year, we’ve already had five black transgender women killed violently in 2019,” he said. “It’s outrageous. It must, it must, it must end. And the fastest way to end it is end the Trump administration.”
Biden made the strange connection between the deaths and Trump without any proof of how the two are connected, instead complaining about the military transgender ban.
WASHINGTON (AP) — A Maryland man who set himself on fire at a national park near the White House has died.
U.S. Park police tell news outlets 33-year-old Arnav Gupta died from his injuries late Wednesday. Police say officers and U.S. Secret Service agents responded to a report of the burning man earlier on the Ellipse that afternoon and extinguished the flames. Gupta was hospitalized in critical condition.
Montgomery County, Maryland, police said earlier Wednesday that investigators were searching for Gupta and were concerned for his welfare. They said he was last seen alive that morning when he left his Bethesda-area home.
Park police spokesman Sgt. Eduardo Delgado says Washington, D.C., police are now handling the investigation.

The Supreme Court of Utah upheld a six-month suspension without pay for a municipal judge who disparaged President Donald Trump on social media and during official judicial proceedings.
Taylorsville Justice Court Judge Michael Kwan undermined public confidence in the courts by intervening in the political process, the state Supreme Court concluded.
“Fulfillment of judicial duties does not come without personal sacrifice of some opportunities and privileges available to the public at large,” Utah Supreme Court Justice John Pearce wrote in an opinion upholding the sanctions against Kwan. “And as a person the public entrusts to decide issues with the utmost fairness, independence, and impartiality, a judge must at times set aside the power of his or her voice.”
Long before becoming president, Donald Trump called for the jailing of his adversaries. Aided by Attorney General William Barr, he may now actually be training the full force of federal law enforcement against his enemies, real or perceived. Unlike Richard Nixon, who acted in secret, Trump is corrupting the justice system openly and publicly.
The seriousness of such a presidential abuse of power, and its potential for undermining the constitutional order, could well surpass any of the crimes detailed in the Mueller Report. Indeed, the Congress long ago recognized that such misconduct can merit impeachment.
Trump’s desire to investigate the investigators who uncovered the Russian plot to elect him president has taken on a special urgency since the release of the Mueller Report, with Trump repeatedly accusing government officials of “treason,” and the White House declaring: “This whole thing was a TAKEDOWN ATTEMPT at the President of the United States.”

Rep. Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., said she believes President Trump crossed an ethical line on “day one” of his administration.
In a Friday interview with Yahoo News’s “Skullduggery” podcast, she said Trump committed an impeachable offense by not divesting himself from his sprawling real estate empire before entering public office.
“So many people are focused on what happened before he took the oath of office,” she said. “What I am more concerned [about], and what the American people and American public are concerned about is: After he took the oath of office, what has he done?”
